Are you knowledgeable or an expert in a certain field of study? If you say yes, you could become a Skooli tutor and make money from home. Skooli is an online tutoring platform that provides on-demand help for students with their lessons. At the same time, they offer flexible tutoring opportunities to qualified tutors.
But is Skooli really worth it? I get this question a lot so today, I’ve decided to write this Skooli review to share with you how you can work for Skooli, how much you can make as a Skooli tutor and whether it’s really a great opportunity for you.
Like most of my job reviews on this blog, I’ve included in this post some honest reviews by people who’ve tried working for the said company. I hope that this Skooli review will help you decide whether to give this company a go or a no go.
Disclaimer: I am not a Skooli tutor and not an affiliate for Skooli. This Skooli review has been researched and reviewed with information I gathered from around the web. The conclusions drawn in this post are entirely my own.
What Is Skooli?
Table of Contents
With most students now stuck at home, technology is paving the way for their learning in lieu of face-to-face education. Unfortunately, some students still need some extra help in understanding their lessons. And this is where Skooli comes in.
Skooli was founded in 2014 by brother Rene and Dave Frey. The Frey brothers founded Teach Away in 2004, a company that hires English-speaking teachers for teaching opportunities abroad. A decade later, the brothers founded Skooli, which aims to provide students digital access to qualified teachers whenever they needed.
Skooli follows a pay-as-you-go model. Students only need to pay for the time consumed for tutoring. Their parents do not have to spend for a monthly subscription or pre-pay for a booked session.
What Does Skooli Do?
According to its website, Skooli provides an instant tutoring space, anytime and anywhere. And to ensure that students get the best tutoring service, Skooli claims to hire only the qualified tutors into their platform. With that, parents won’t have to stress over their kids lagging behind their lessons and kids can improve their grades by learning from professional tutors.
Meanwhile, Skooli tutors can cash in on their knowledge and expertise and turn their spare time into cash.
Skooli provides online and on-demand tutoring services for kids of all ages, even high school and college students. Currently, Skooli offers tutoring assistance in the following subjects: Math (Calculus, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics), Language (ESL, Spanish, French and Chinese), Humanities (English, Writing, Reading and History), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science), and Business (Economics, Accounting, Marketing and Finance).
How Does Skooli Work?
Everything happens inside the Skooli dashboard. Once you’re qualified to join Skooli, you can log in as a tutor and wait for students to contact you. A green button next to your profile picture indicates that you’re online and ready to teach students.
If you want to work specific hours, you can set your availability within your profile. Students will see your available hours converted into their timezones. Students may also request for tutoring sessions outside your available hours, and it’s up to you whether to reject or accept the request.
You will receive a pop-up message if a student wants an instant tutoring session with you. A student can also send requests to numerous tutors simultaneously, and the first tutor to act on that request wins the gig. The request will also contain the student’s grade level and subject that he needs help with.
Once you’re ready to start a session, you can click on Join Class on your dashboard. The classroom is accessible via Skooli’s mobile app and website (for desktop and laptop users). The classroom is equipped with nifty features like a whiteboard, share pointer tool, drag and drop images, video, and chat window.
Your student may book you again for another session if you didn’t have enough time covering all the materials in the previous session. Otherwise, that session will end and you can submit a score and feedback on your student’s performance.
You can find a lot more information on how Skooli works form their videos on their YouTube Channel.
Skooli Pay
The company pays its tutors based on their qualifications and experience. Skooli did not disclose a specific amount on their website, but according to most skooli.com reviews, the hourly rate for Skooli tutors is around $25. I believe this is a competitive offer. According to Salary.com, tutors in the US are paid between $16-$22 per hour.
The good thing about Skooli is that it pays its tutors even when students don’t show up for scheduled sessions as long as the tutor waits for 15 minutes in the classroom. As for instant consultation, tutors are also paid equivalent to 15 minutes if the session lasted between 5 to 15 minutes.
Payments can be processed by Skooli tutors as long as they’ve accumulated $100 or more in their accounts.

Skooli Tutor Reviews: What Do Tutors Have To Say About Their Experience Working for Skooli?
As I go further with this Skooli review, I realized that there aren’t a lot of Skooli tutor job reviews online. Skooli does not have a very prominent online presence for the past few years despite the fact it is an online tutoring platform. But according to what I’ve found, these are what tutors can say about Skooli:
Glassdoor
Skooli has a 3.3-star rating on Glassdoor. Most freelancers appreciate the flexible work set-up at Skooli and the company’s decent rate. However, they also cite work is not always guaranteed and the company seems struggling to keep their students.
Skooli Review: Is Skooli Worth Your Time?
So, we’ve come to the end of my Skooli review, and hopefully, it will help you decide whether you should pursue applying for Skooli or not.
With the way education is moving right now, I think the demand for online tutors is only going to go up. A lot of companies are already offering online tutoring services, but they differ in their dynamics or workflow, rate, scheduling, and other factors.
As for Skooli, this company offers a competitive rate and flexible work schedule. It can be an excellent side job for those who have deeper skills in the subjects that Skooli offers to tutor.
But based on most Skooli tutor reviews, Skooli has a lot of things missing. First, it does not have a solid online presence, so it’s tough to find other independent reviews about the company. Also, the company seems to have a poor customer conversion rate, and this is in turn, can hurt the income potential of tutors.
I would say keep Skooli in your list of online tutoring jobs, but don’t focus all your efforts there. It’s good to keep your mind open for other opportunities.
Have you tried working at Skooli or other online tutoring platforms? What was it like?
