Deliver Driver Jobs Near Me

Delivery jobs are some of the most flexible and decent-paying side gigs you can do. You’ll typically drive your own car, use the company’s app to find and book deliveries, and decide whether you want to take the task or not.

Since you can work around your schedule, it makes a great side job for stay-at-home moms, retired individuals, and even college students.

  • Delivery Driver Jobs Near Me: Is this the right side-hustle?

The requirements for each delivery job company may vary, but most of them have these usual qualifications:

  • You must be 18 years old or older.
  • You reside and are eligible to work in the country.
  • You have an efficient working vehicle.
  • Have a valid driver’s license as well as insurance.
  • You own a smartphone which you will use to download and use the company’s app.
  • You can lift an item weighing more than 40 lbs.
  • Complete a background check.

If you have these qualifications, and you’re interested in delivery driver jobs, then you’ll most likely find a fitting company to work with. It’s essential to remember, though, that these are mostly part-time delivery jobs, and you’ll work with your company as an independent contractor.

As an independent contractor, you have more control over your time, so you can work as much or as little as you desire. You can pick up delivery jobs during your spare time, on the weekends, and if you want to earn more, during the peak seasons, such as the holidays.

Two Popular Types of Delivery Driver Jobs With Flexible Work Schedule

There are many types of delivery driver jobs but two of the most common types that allow you to work around your schedule are food delivery and package delivery.

1.     Food Delivery Driver Jobs

Food Delivery Driver Jobs

You might be wondering: how does food delivery work? It’s pretty straight forward. Most restaurants or fast food these days choose a delivery service (such as Uber Eats or Door Dash) to take care of their food delivery. Then, these delivery service companies hire drivers like you to deliver food for their clients.

Food delivery drivers can make a decent income delivering pizza, Chinese food and even groceries.  In most cases, food delivery driver positions are entry-level. You don’t need experience in the industry to get started but you’ll need to have your own vehicle and a clean driving record.

It’s easy to get food delivery driver jobs depending on where you live. Perhaps the only challenge in this job is is the constant pressure to get to your destination as quickly as possible. After all, no customer in the world would want cold food.

2.     Package Delivery Driver Jobs

As a package delivery driver, your job is to take packages to homes, retail locations and other delivery locations.

Compared to other delivery driver jobs available, package delivery can be physically demanding and stressful.  A high level of fitness is also required to lift heavy packages and take them to the delivery point.

Best Companies that Offer Delivery Driver Jobs

Are you ready to turn your spare time into extra cash? Here are the top companies/apps that you can apply to get delivery driver jobs:

1. Doordash Food Delivery Jobs

DoorDash is a food delivery service, and their delivery drivers are called “dashers.” When customers order food through the app, a dasher nearby picks up the order and delivers it to the customer. If you don’t have a car, you can use a bike, motorcycle, or scooter to fulfill the orders depending on the city regulations.

What’s also wonderful about DoorDash is that the apps show you exactly how much you’ll make for each successful delivery. You’ll also get the entire cash tip the customer gives you.

You can make an average of $10 per hour with DoorDash, but rates may vary depending on your location.

Requirements

You cannot have three moving violations in the last three years. You should not have major violations such as assault or DUI.

Location

Doordash operates in most major cities in the US and Canada.

Apply to Doordash

2.  Instacart Food Delivery Driver Jobs

Instacart is a delivery service, and it’s one of the best companies that offer grocery delivery jobs. With Instacart, you can work as a grocery shopper by collecting the orders from the shops, and then delivering them to the customer’s address.

You may obtain and purchase the orders, or you may just deliver them. However, if you opt to deliver, you’ll earn more through tips.

Instacart is flexible, and it allows you to work on your chosen time slot. Most shoppers and delivery drivers make an average of $20 an hour.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation
  • Must own and know how to use a newer smartphone (iPhone 5 / Android 4.4 or newer)

Locations

Instacart operates in most major U.S. cities.

Apply to Instacart

3. Package Delivery Jobs for Amazon

Amazon Flex is another deliver jobs provider that works in tandem with the Amazon store. When a customer purchases from Amazon, the package will be delivered by a delivery driver.

When you work as a delivery driver for Amazon, you have the option to choose a “block” or a four-hour period that would become your working hours. You will then go to the nearest Amazon pick up station, gather the parcels, and deliver them to the proper addresses.

Delivery Opportunities with Amazon Flex

Amazon Flex currently offers four types of delivery opportunities:

  • Prime Now and Amazon Fresh: Deliver groceries and household items.
  • Amazon.com: Deliver packages from an Amazon delivery station to customers.
  • Instant Offers: This is only available in some areas. These are quick deliveries you can do in 15-45 minutes and start near your current location.
  • Store Orders:  Deliver items from local stores to their customers.

Amazon delivery jobs have competitive rates, ranging between $18-$25 per hour. While others allow for scooters or bikes, Amazon requires their drivers to own and drive a car or a van.

Apply to Amazon Flex

4. Postmates

If you don’t have a car, but can ride a bike, the Postmates would be one of your best options for food delivery jobs. But apart from meals, Postmates also deliver groceries and alcohol.

As for their delivery drivers, Postmates offer decent wages, with an average of $25/hour. The rates may vary depending on how much time you spent at pick-up, the distance you need to travel from pick-up to drop-off, your city or location, and 100% of the customer’s tip.

6. GrubHub

If you’re already familiar with how pizza delivery jobs work, well, they’re pretty much the same as GrubHub’s.

GrubHub is a food delivery service and app, which allows drivers to deliver food orders to customers. The concept of GrubHub is almost the same as that of DoorDash. You open the app and watch out for delivery tasks within your location boundary. You take the task, get the order from the restaurant, and then deliver it to the customer’s address.

You won’t be getting the payment for the order from the customer as that is already processed within the app. However, the customer may give you a tip which you can keep to yourself. GrubHub pays an average of $12 an hour.

Requirements

  • Must pass a background check
  • Have a valid state ID if you want to deliver by bicycle
  • With at least two years of driving experience

If you are booked for a specific time slot to make deliveries, and you have no package to deliver, the company guarantees you 50% of your hourly rate to pay for your availability. The mileage rate sits at $0.50 per mile. On average, Deliv drivers can make around $15-22 an hour.

As with UberEats, the driver picks up the food order of the customer and delivers it to the customer’s location. Depending on your city or location, you may use a car, bike or scooter to make the deliveries. You can earn around $8 – $10 an hour delivering for UberEats, and you may earn more from tips. Delivery Driver Jobs Near Me: Is this the right side-hustle?

Delivery jobs are excellent options for people who have a lot of time in their hands. It doesn’t require you any degree or master a specific skill. As long as you can drive and follow the instructions, getting a delivery job in your area shouldn’t be too hard for you.

However, you must remember that you’re working as an independent contractor, so you have to cover your taxes and insurances. It also helps to have adequate auto insurance in place for your own peace of mind.

But all in all, working as a delivery driver is an excellent income source since you can work at your own time. It’s great to take advantage of the peak seasons, such as the holidays because people are shopping and sending packages, which means more work and more money for you.
